Oat - UC-142

DEVELOPMENT

UC 142 was released by the Univ. of Calif. in 2007 as a public variety (seed released in 2010).

PEST DISEASE RESISTANCE

UC 142 is moderately resistant to Barley Yellow Dwarf Virus, stem rust, crown rust, and powdery mildew.

YIELD DATA

The straw is thin, slightly thinner than that of ‘Montezuma’, and straw strength is good but lodging may occur in thick, highly productive situations. Stature is about belt high (short). Time to panicle emergence is about two weeks later than that of Montezuma. Hay production makes good fodder for horses and cattle, but the grain yield is also good. Test weight (36 lb/bu) and protein percentages are better than that observed for Montezuma. UC-142 has a prostrate growth habit initially followed by rapid heading and maturity.
